Executive Director of Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) of the Jakarta State Islamic University (Universitas Islam Negeri Jakarta or UIN Jakarta), Dr. Arisman, accompanied by members of the Center met with Dr. Makarim Wibisono, the ASEAN Foundation Executive Director, on 16 December 2013 at the ASEAN Foundation office in Jakarta.
Dr. Arisman informed that his Center was working toward the setting up of a forum for young people of ASEAN + 3 Countries to understand the employment crisis they would face in the future. Further, he stated that this would serve as a follow-up action of The Fourth ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Youth (4th AMMY+3) that discussed directions and initiatives to further promote ASEAN youths’ participation in contributing toward the future of ASEAN Community. He sought to explore the possibility of partnering with the ASEAN Foundation in implementing the idea.
For background information, Dr. Makarim Wibisono briefed the guests on the mandates and visions and missions of the ASEAN Foundation as directed by the founding fathers and later by the ASEAN Charter. Welcoming the good idea of creating a forum enabling youths’ participation, Dr. Makarim encouraged the Center to take necessary steps to engage the ASEAN Foundation’s support in its activity.
